The Perfect Baked Potato
The mighty potato has got a terrible wrap in the past 10 years ….. don’t be a potato hater or you will miss out on these perfect baked potatoes !
I know this is the simplest recipe ever, but for those who are new to cooking or just moved out on their own this is your perfect starer recipe.
One thing to remember is to stab your potato. It turns out that potatoes exploding when not pricked first is true. The water content in the potato expands when cooking and the skin acts as a seal ….. and when water can’t escape – BOOM you have the Perfect baked potato.
The great thing about baked potatoes is the ability to dress them up with different ingredients and make them a meal on there own, the sky is the limit !
Big baking potato
medium onion peeled and whole
1 tbs olive oil (more if needed)
pinch of salt
1/2 tsp garlic salt
Pre heat oven to 180C.
Use a fork and prick your potato all over .
Rub potato and onion with olive oil and sprinkle with salt and garlic salt.
Place your potato on an oven tray and pop into oven for about 2hrs 20 mins (until skin is super crispy)
Turning every half hour and add more olive oil if needed.
Top That Perfect Potato
Cut the potato in half.
Scoop out the middle of the potato and place in a small bowl leaving the potato skin in tact.
Add some of your favorite grated cheese a tbs of thick greek yogurt, sprinkle of paprika and mash together with a dash of hot sauce.
sprinkle the inside shell of the potato with some salt and place the filling into the shell.
Cut the onion into pieces and place on top and serve.
There are a hundred ways to top this little gem butter, salt, sour cream, yogurt, baked beans, cheese, salsa …….. and the list goes on.
